Fish far away from people because some people may be trolling you by putting a water bucket that makes a splash so you will think you caught a fish. They might also swim in the water and bob up and down to make you think you have a fish. Or they might stand right on the block you are standing on (also known as standing behind you) to get your fish when you catch one.Thus, make sure that you don't have any fish in your inventory because if you catch a same-type fish as one you already have in your inventory, the fish will not go into your backpack but rather become in a dropped form.
