Bookcases are decorative things thatdoo not have any special effects and can be placed and break to get a chance of seeds or even the item itselves. They are made by a Rainbow Block seed and a Dresser seed or can be planted with a Bookcase Seed. You can go on top of it and pretend you are pulling a book out of it and read. You can use bookcases to make a library or a room.
