Growtopia/Removed Content

From Growtopia Wiki

Since the development of Growtopia began, there has been a lot of content added to the game that can no longer be accessed by any means, except by going through old archives.

This page documents only removed content that is currently not in the game.

Items

Lock

Lock
Item's method of obtaining is currently unknown.
In-game description is not available.

Lock, as its name might suggest, was a solid lock foreground block which was an early template for locks in the game. This item was scrapped from the game in its beta stage. It seemingly behaved in a similar manner to the Huge Lock, and had the same design as well.

The item was completely overwritten by Portcullis, along with its data and sprite.

Below is a piece of text from item_definitions.txt, a file that was included in certain older builds of the game, indicating that Lock once existed in the game:[1]

Nyan Hat / Taco Dog

Main article: Turtle Hat
Nyan Hat
Item's method of obtaining is currently unknown.
In-game description is not available.

The Nyan Hat was a hat item which was added alongside Phonecats Hat on March 7, 2013. Both items were based on the Nyan Cat internet meme.

In May 2013, Christopher Torres, the copyright owner of Nyan Cat, sued Warner Bros. for an unauthorized usage of the character.[2] In light of this, the developers decided to alter the Nyan Hat's design in order to avoid any copyright issue themselves.

Taco Dog
Item's method of obtaining is currently unknown.
In-game description is not available.

Per fan suggestion, the Taco Dog was introduced on May 11, 2013 as the Nyan Hat's replacement. While the Taco Dog seemed like a good idea at that time, it was soon discovered that the Taco Dog was another creation of Torres. A poll was soon posted, asking the playerbase for ideas for the second redesign.[3].

The possible choices for the redesign at that time were Yerfdog, Piggy Bank, Turtle, Kitty, and Puppy. The poll closed on May 13, with Turtle winning 45.12% of the votes. The Turtle Hat was then rolled out on May 16.

In-game description is not available.

A Burglar was a solid SFX foreground block which was added as part of the GROWTECHPHARMA world event on May 16, 2013, a day before the addition of Zombie Defense Pack. When a player punched the block, it played a hurt animation and said, "Ow, Stop!".

The item was completely overwritten by Tombstone, along with its data and sprite. Its sound effect is now played only when an Awkward Friendly Unicorn is punched.

Discontinued Console Edition

Ubisoft Club Rewards

Main article: Ubisoft Club Rewards

The Ubisoft Club Rewards was one of the few features available only to the discontinued console edition of Growtopia. By earning achievements, players could obtain exclusive tokens, which would be able to be traded for unique items.

Three of the exclusive items obtained through this system has been added to the PC/mobile version of Growtopia: Glowing Shirt, Plunger, and The Brother Hood. Two, however, are still yet to be added: the Unicorn and Energy Drink.

Phonecats Hat

Main article: Phonecats Hat

The Phonecats Hat is an unobtainable hat item which was added on March 7, 2013, exclusively given to Phonecats/pcats (YouTube: phonecatss) for his contributions as a content creator during Growtopia's early stages.[4]

Its old design was similar to the Nyan Hat, both of which were based on the Nyan Cat internet meme. The item's sprite was changed sometime between SummerFest 2013 and Rise of the Desert Dragons due to copyright reasons, a few months after Nyan Hat was replaced by Turtle Hat.[5][6]
