This item's name is possibly a reference to the Piranha Plant, a prominent enemy in Nintendo's Super Mario franchise. Much like a Venus Guytrap, a Piranha Plant will also kill the player upon contact in most of the Super Mario games. Some other blocks inspired from the franchise are the Mystery Block and Plumbing.
