It was added on 2 September 2016. It is used to call a NPC, for example, Crazy Jim and the Operator. Telephones cannot be used during an apocalypse as of the Night of the Sewing Dead update. But it was later chnaged which you could use the telephone as people are unable to earn growtokens from the Daily Quest or from the Sales Man, the only way to earn Growtokens.

During the apocalypse, the telephone reads: "All you hear is a eerie buzzing sounds. Guess telephones don't work during an apocalypse."
