There are also special tiles which can yield large amounts of gems when broken. If a [[Mystery Block]] is broken, each block broken can drop 10-50 gems. However, the high rarity of the item makes this a bad suggestion in the long run. Another item that will yield even more gems, up to 200, is the [[Pot O' Gold]], distributed on [[St. Patrick's Week]]. However, it is also very rare and valued at 200 rarity, making it the most statistically rare item in the game, and the limited quantity of the item gives it a high value in trading, so destroying it is not recommended.

There is a higher chance of getting gems from trees, so it is a good idea to plant a large amount of trees in a line and simply break them all. The items most reliable for this are items which are self-sustaining; items which can yield more seeds than the initial count after harvesting. There are many items which do this, such as [[Rock]], [[Grass]] and colored blocks. The higher the rarity, the more gems you can get out of it.
Farming gems is easy once you chosen a method that suits you, using sustainable blocks that drop large amounts of gems. Ideally, these are:
*[[Steel Block]]s
*[[Coral]]
*[[Sugar Cane]]
Sugar Cane is highly recommended, due to it being fast to break and therefore easy to farm and the large amount of gems it drops for it's rarity (24). In addition, just 25 Sugar Cane seeds can be traded for a [[World Lock]], giving them an extremely high trade value as well.

Gems are the sole currency in Growtopia (besides the imaginary currency used when trading items, or the Rarity rating). Gems can be obtained through in-app purchases, completing Tapjoy offers or through common aspects of gameplay, such as breaking blocks and harvesting trees.

The Tapjoy offer wall is accesible through the Growtopia Store. It allows the player to watch videos or install apps to earn free gems for use during gameplay. Tapjoy is currently only avalible on the iOS and Android versions of the game.

Earning 1000 gems or more through Tapjoy or buying any in-app purchase makes the player a Supporter. Upon becoming a Supporter, the player unlocks the "Recycle" tool. This replaces the "Trash" tool in the player's inventory and allows them to recycle items to earn gems.
