The name of the item is a reference to a line spoken by Ranier Wolfcastle during the "Radioactive Man" episode of The Simpsons, "My eyes! Ze goggles do nothing!"
A similar item exists in Team Fortress 2 named Ze Goggles with the description "Nothing".
