The Glass Block is one of the few blocks that are slightly transparent, so any wallpaper and scenery behind can be seen. It can be used for some players to make 'clouds' before they have access to the more appropriate material.

Additional Info

Some new players can (strangely) confuse this with the more useful Steel Block. Also, the Crystal Block used to look like the glass block, but the design was changed, thanks to the ex-moderator @Meow.
