This block was added with the Spelunkorama! update. They can be found in Cave Blasted Worlds. They emit light in cave worlds, making them easily findable.
Touching them will have the same effect as touching a Lava Block. You can also make Purple Cave Crystals by lighting them into a Highly Combustible Box
