Each color has a respective distance.
*  No Rings - You are very far from the source of radioactivity.
*  Red Ring - You are 15-30 blocks away from the source of radioactivity.
* Yellow Ring - You are 15-10 blocks away from the source of radioactivity.
* Double Green Rings - You are 10-6 blocks away from to the source of radioactivity.
* Rapid Double Green Rings - You 2-6 blocks away from the source of radioactivity.
* No signal next to the source of radioactivity - You are in the 3x3 area of the source of radioactivity, standing there for a second will give you a random prize listed below.
* If you are using in the same world as someone you would have the same signal as any other player.
One way of finding exactly where the source is, find how wide the green rings last for (e.g. 15 blocks), go to the middle and dig up or down. The source is exactly in the middle of the area which produces green rings.

How It Works
When equipped, the item will emit one of three different colored rings, or no rings around the player:

*No rings - the player is very far from the source of radioactivity
*Red ring - the player is 15-30 blocks away from the source of radioactivity
*Yellow rings - the player is 10-15 blocks away from the source of radioactivity
*Green rings - the player is 6-10 blocks away from the source of radioactivity
*Rapid Green rings - the player is 0-6 blocks away from the source of radioactivity

These rings are used to tell the player how far they are from the radioactivity (e.g. red means that they are far and should move towards a green area).
NOTE: During Night Of The Comet (or in a world with Weather Machine - Comet), all Geiger Counters will emit green rings because the comet is messing up the Geiger Counter's reading. If players manage to find a radioactive item, they will receive the "Atomic Luck" achievement.
Once the player stands on the source of radioactivity, the item they have found will automatically go into their backpack. The player will receive the Irradiated mod for half an hour and their Geiger Counter will turn into a Dead Geiger Counter. The Dead Geiger Counter must be equipped in the player's hand and will take approximately half an hour to recharge, as long as the player does not unequip it. Being in the EXIT menu does not recharge the Geiger Counter.
NOTE: The Geiger Counter can only be used in regular worlds of size 60x100. It cannot be used in worlds which have been modified in size.

* When a Dead Geiger Counter is held, players will have the "Charging Geiger Counter" mod. 1% takes 20 seconds to charge, meaning that it requires 31 minutes and 20 seconds to fully charge a Dead Geiger Counter. During Geiger Day, charging takes half the time.

* When a player has found a radioactive item, the player will receive the "Irradiated" mod. This means that the player cannot find more radioactive items for the next thirty minutes. During Geiger Day, the mod lasts for fifteen minutes only.
After finding the source, players will have an effect called "Irradiated." This means that they won't be able to find any radioactivity for 30 minutes. At the same time, your Geiger Counter will be replaced with a Dead Geiger Counter. During Geiger Day, the "Irradiated" mod only lasts for 15 minutes.

Note: If the Geiger Counter is during the Night of The Comet Event, it will always emit green rings but not the rapid version of it, because the comet's radiation is messing up the counter. If players manage to find one, they will get the achievement: Atomic Luck.

Geiger Counters charge 1% every 20 seconds (31 minutes and 20 seconds for 100%). During Geiger Day, it is only half the time. They do not require movement to charge.

The Geiger Counter is a hand item which allows players to find radioactive items. When the player has found a radioactive item, the player will get the Irridated mod and the Geiger Counter will turn into a Dead Geiger Counter which needs to be recharged (automatically recharges in approximately half an hour, only if it is equipped).

How It Works

When equipped, the item will emit one of three different colored rings, or no rings around the player:

 • No rings - the player is very far from the source of radioactivity
 • Red ring - the player is 15-30 blocks away from the source of radioactivity
 • Yellow rings - the player is 10-15 blocks away from the source of radioactivity
 • Green rings - the player is 6-10 blocks away from the source of radioactivity
 • Rapid Green rings - the player is 0-6 blocks away from the source of radioactivity

Possible Rewards

Upon reaching the hidden source of radioactivity players will receive either one the following items (from most common to rarest):

Geiger Day Only

On Geiger Day, Geiger Counters take half the time to charge and the "Irradiated" mod lasts for half the time too. There is also a chance that upon using a Geiger Counter, the H.R. Geiger Supervillain is summoned. All other prizes are possible to obtain, however, the colored stuff is replaced with Geiger V-Necks.

Event only

GEIGERHILLS only

In GEIGERHILLS, the Uranium Block is the only drop in the world. However, the player can use the Geiger Counter in the world as much as they want as the Geiger Counter never dies and never needs recharging if an item is found in the world.

Effects

 • When a Dead Geiger Counter is held, players will have the "Charging Geiger Counter" mod. 1% takes 20 seconds to charge, meaning that it requires 31 minutes and 20 seconds to fully charge a Dead Geiger Counter. During Geiger Day, charging takes half the time.
 • When a player has found a radioactive item, the player will receive the "Irradiated" mod. This means that the player cannot find more radioactive items for the next thirty minutes. During Geiger Day, the mod lasts for fifteen minutes only.

Trivia

 • During Cinco De Mayo Week 2017, a change was made so that that worlds with an irregular size (eg. TINY) would not have any sources of radioactivity, rendering them useless for geiger hunting.
 • When the item was originally released alongside the Superhero Pack, players could only get Radioactive Chemicals. During the Crystals update, crystals became possible drops, along with other items.
 • Players can use Hot Chocolate on themselves to remove the Irradiated effect and charge the Geiger.
 • Geiger Chargers take twice as long to charge as charging while holding the Geiger Counter. However, they do not need to be equipped and can be placed inside the charger.
