id:Fossil Rock

The Fossil Rock is an unsplicable solid foreground block which was added as part of the Growassic Park update on October 7, 2016.

Obtaining

The item spawns in worlds in the place of a Rock. One may appear whenever the world is loaded, with the number of rocks or players in the world not affecting the spawn rate as long as there is at least one of each.

Function

A Fossil Rock should be punched using a Rock Hammer until the fossil has been unearthed, followed by a Rock Chisel until it breaks, dropping a Fossil. Using a Fossil Brush on the dropped Fossil will give a Polished Fossil.

Trivia

  • The Fossil Rock has the appearance of a Rock with a Fossil embedded in it.
  • Contrary to popular belief, Rocks do not turn into Fossil Rocks based on the number of players in a world. The generation rate of Fossil Rocks is flat; whether there is one or 65 players in a world, the generation rate of Fossil Rocks is the same. This has been confirmed by @Hamumu himself, who said in a reply to a thread on the Growtopia Forums:
    • Doesn't matter how popular your world is, doesn't matter how many rocks you have in it (as long as you have at least 1...), doesn't matter how old or new it is, doesn't matter the rating, doesn't matter what you have built in it, doesn't even matter how you have it locked (or IF you have it locked). EVERY WORLD is equally likely, provided it's currently loaded.[1]
  • The Fossil Rock's description was changed on an unknown date. This change was made to reflect the fact that Fossil Rocks do not generate based on world popularity.
    • Old description: This rock seems to have a fossil embedded in it. Maybe you could crack it loose if you tap very carefully with a Rock Hammer.
    • New description: This rock seems to have a fossil embedded in it. Maybe you could crack it loose if you tap very carefully with a Rock Hammer. There is a rumor, as old as time itself, that having a busy world will generate more Fossil Rock. The Growtopia Archaeological Society have officially announced that this is totally untrue. Time to bury that rumor, once and for all!
